Storage and Self-Storage
STORAGE
When you can't move into your new home and you must put your things into storage, most movers will provide storage for your goods. The mover will inventory all items that you put into storage and issue a warehouse receipt. If there are some items that you will need before the others, advise the mover to create a separate inventory. The mover will hold all items for you indefinably, (as long as your monthly storage bill is paid) until you are ready to have your shipment delivered from storage. Mover's storage is regulated and the mover's liability remains the same until you accept delivery.
SELF-STORAGE
Self-storage is not regulated so you must make your own arrangements for this type of storage. We only recommend this type of storage for situations where you need access to the items in storage. You should provide blankets or substitutes for protecting furniture that will be stacked in the unit. Advise your mover of any time restrictions of the storage facility, what floor it is on etc. Some units are not accessible by tractor-trailer. These types of delays could increase the cost of your move. You must stay at the storage unit until the movers are finished to sign for the services and lock the unit. Since this is your final destination, movers are not responsible for this type of storage after delivery.
